The societal challenges of sewage sludge treatment

Sludge generated from sewage and wastewater treatment plants is 9 million tons/year, and the cost of treatment is 1.4 trillion won/year, increasing year by year, and the cost of treatment is increasing due to the continuous decrease in recycling methods (composting, fueling) among existing sludge treatment methods.

Problems in the field

Problem 1

Sewage and Wastewater Excess Sludge
Increased operating costs due to increased generation
(labor, treatment, chemicals)

Problem 2

Organic Snow Waste Biogasification
Poor facility methane gas generation efficiency
Excessive facility and operating costs

Problem 3

Landfill Bans for Organic Waste
recycling and incineration
Cost of disposal and securing a disposal site

Solutions

High concentration of radicals – highly oxidizing processes

Oxidizer + nano bubbles + ultrasonic + IoT technologies are combined to oxidize and degrade excess sludge from sewage and wastewater treatment plants and make it soluble by breaking the sludge (microbial) cell wall.

  • Reduction of surplus sludge by decomposing and reusing it for solubilization
  • Reduced waste generation by more than 60% through reuse in sewage and wastewater treatment processes and reduced operating costs such as treatment fees
  • Increased dehydration efficiency (over 60%)
  • Reuse of dewatering filtrate as an organic carbon source
  • Increased biogas production by utilizing surplus sludge
  • Reduced residue generation for easier final processing
  • Reduces the amount of organic waste generated (>70%)
  • Meets incineration standards (less than 70% moisture content)

Water and wastewater treatment processes

Economic comparison to traditional processing systems

Item Existing Capacity Our Product Capacity
Sludge Cake Generation 1 ton/day 0.3 ton/day
Processing Cost 200,000 KRW/ton 75,000 KRW/ton
Installation Cost Existing Dewatering Machine 3 billion KRW
Payback Period - 2~3 years
Efficiency Comparison · Moisture content over 82% → Increased processing cost
· Final disposal via landfill & incineration → Landfill shortage
· Cost incurred → 250,000~300,000 KRW/ton
· Increased environmental pollution
· Moisture content below 60%
· Improved recycling efficiency
· 80% reduction in processing cost
· Reduced environmental pollution & carbon neutrality (ESG)
